The Navel Extreme is a fight no one should typically expect to beat on their first try, unless they are being carried. There is a certain degree of memorization, reaction time, and situational awareness necessary to complete the fight. And if you have a bad computer or connection, there is also a certain degree of luck involved that you won't lag at the wrong time. Get ready, because Titan EX is the granite wall that a lot of people run up against when clearing primals.

Overview

  • Tanks will typically rotate on three stacks of the debuff caused by Mountain Buster. Rotations will almost always happen during Granite Gaols/Upheaval as that just tends to be how the timing works out a lot of the time. Tanks should decide ahead of time who is taking adds. It is easier if the Add Tank is OT during Heart Phase, but there is enough time for a tank swap following Heart before adds spawn.
  • DPS, as with many other ex primals, need to be stacked up right behind Titan and they need to move as one. This is best done by a single guy with ten hands able to simultaneously move the whole party at once, but failing that, you will have to make do with tight stacks and getting the hell out of the way of Weight of the Land and Landslide like you know what you're doing, and hope your fellow party members know what they're doing too. The name of the game here is dodging and prediction. Positional DPS, be careful before you do your positional DPS. Learn when Weight of the Land happens and make sure you are always stacked tight with your party when it is about to happen. Do not move early, wait until you see the aoes. During Gaol, one DPS will be targeted and they must always go right under Titan's butt to be broken out first. If you have aspirations of being a loldrg, this is not the fight for it (although there is a good chance the fight will disagree with you.)
  • Healers should act as DPS act in regards to stacking. Be prepared for heavy tank damage as their stacks build, Mountain Buster hurts. Also be prepared with AoE heals following Titan's stomps as they hurt too. The name of the game for you, just like with DPS, is dodging and staying alive. The golden rule of healing Titan Ex is always: "Dodge, then Heal." The DPS and tanks should survive the three seconds it takes you to dodge and cast. The same will likely not be said for you if you decide to heal first. When you become Gaoled, you want to run to the south-west end edge of the arena.

Mechanics

  • Dodging - It's really the most important mechanic of the fight. Typically the party will want to dodge LEFT out of any mechanics and then return immediately to their stack behind Titan. This is not a golden rule, and sometimes you will need to dodge right in order to avoid death.
  • Mountain Buster - This makes a return from Hard mode, but it's a little bit different. Tanks will be dealing with it throughout the whole fight, and it determines your tank swaps. Three stacks means that it is time to swap. Two for lesser geared tanks. It hurts less than Hard Mode.
  • Weight of the Land - This is the big circle aoes beneath you and your party members. This skill and Landslide are the two biggest reasons you will lose party members. It is just like previous iterations of the fight in that if you do not dodge it, you will take a lot of damage. The reason it's a party killer in this fight is because your party needs to remain stacked in order to lead Landslide properly. Getting hit by four or five Weights hurts. To death.
  • Landslide - This functions exactly the same as previous iterations of the fight. A line AoE that will knock you off of the arena when hit by it, unless you are really lucky. The difference is that it is no longer just a single line. It is three lines, and then five lines. Things get hectic when trying to dodge this, which is why we need to lead it properly to take some of the guesswork out of it. This is why the party stacks.
  • Tumult - These are the stomps which Titan does. He does a lot more of them in this fight and the AoE damage can be hard on the healers. Weight of the Land usually follows this immediately so healers need to be careful not to get stuck healing while Weights are going out. Remember: "Dodge, then Heal."
  • Granite Gaol - These make a return from Hard mode. Except that they target two players now: a DPS and a Healer. And if the players do not get broken out quickly, they will die. These will always go out right before Upheaval. The targeted DPS should stack right underneath Titan's butt (but not too far forward), the targeted healer needs to run to the South-West edge of the arena.
  • Upheaval - This skill is made evident by Titan Gaoling two people and then lifting his leg way up into the air. Everyone is going to want to crawl up Titan's butt at this point. Do NOT get too far forward. The current MT should ALSO stack with everyone. When the cast bar finishes Titan will slam his leg on the ground and send everyone flying backward toward the edge of the arena. If you are too far back or too far forward, you will likely fall off, though there is SOME leeway here. Your order of priority here is: Break the gaol beneath Titan -> Get hit by upheaval and get knocked back -> Lead (and avoid!) Landslide/Break the healer gaol.
  • Bombs - These are exactly what you're familiar with from earlier versions of the fight. Bombs go down, Titan will Landslide during bombs. You should be familiar enough with the mechanic to know how to avoid them. They hurt, try not to get hit.
  • Super-Bombs - But there is one new bomb pattern, and it's a doozy. In the final phase of the fight, near the end, Titan will fill the entire arena with bombs. DPS need to DESTROY a bomb in order to create a safe spot. It is easier if everyone decides on a bomb to break beforehand, we typically choose 9 o'clock. The safe spot it creates is SMALL so make sure you pack tight and close to the edge. The MT should also stack there after Titan jumps. Healers prepare for heavy damage, someone will probably get hit if they are not paying attention.
  • Granite Gaolers (Adds) - Following Heart Phase and entering the final phase of the fight, two adds will spawn after about ten seconds. The Add Tank needs to pick these up immediately and bring them to the East end of the arena. This is where you want them to die, as close to the edge as possible, and as close to on top of one another as possible. DPS need to focus them down as a priority. The Add Tank needs to be aware of their landslides so they don't get knocked off, and try not to end up in the goo AoE they leave behind when they die. The slow is brutal, and often deadly. When they are dead, resume the fight as normal.

^^If you are comfortable with all of these mechanics, you're either lying or you've done this before. You will need to practice all of these mechanics a fair amount, but if you are aware of all these mechanics and everyone else in your party is, your chances of beating Titan have improved exponentially. But there is still more to the fight…

Phase Overview

Phase 1 (100% - 85%) AND Phase 2 (85% - 55%)
Titan has four phases, but the first two are essentially tutorials on the rest of the fight so I've grouped them together. The first phase is largely irrelevant as Titan will only use Landslide, Weight of the Land, Mountain Buster, and Tumult. At 85% he will use Geocrush and he will eliminate a large portion of the arena, down to the smallest size the Titan Hard arena gets to. Phase 2 is the true learning phase in that he will use his full rotation that he will be using throughout the rest of the fight. There is a predictable order to it, and it is good to know it, but you do not need to memorize it as it will become second nature as you do the fight more and more. If you're comfortable with the mechanics listed above, this phase should not be an issue for you. Tanks will likely need to swap one time here, possibly two if the DPS is slow. Following this phase the arena will shrink even more, to the smallest size you've seen it.

Heart Phase
This phase is nice because there is no Mountain Buster, and thus no tank swaps necessary. Just like the Heart Phases of old, DPS the heart and avoid the continued mechanics from Phase 2. In this phase you will need to ensure that you are precise with your stacking for Upheaval as you have a lot less room to mess up. Your goal here is to destroy the heart before the bombs come out, but if bombs come out you still have two more skills before Titan casts Earthen Fury, so it's not quite the end of the line. Save your DPS cooldowns for this phase.

Final Phase
This phase is going to complete the circle of mechanics for you. He's going to keep doing everything from before Heart Phase (including Mountain Buster and thus tank swaps), but he's also going to spawn his Granite Gaoler adds which will be your initial priority as DPS. The SECOND set of Weight of the Land plumes here is going to be DOUBLE WEIGHT. What that means is that you're going to dodge the first set, then dodge one more set immediately. We typically dodge LEFT and then immediately dodge RIGHT to get back to our starting position. The other major thing here is the Super Bombs which will go out near the end of Titan's full rotation of skills. DPS one Super Bomb as detailed above and you're home free.
