Shiva Extreme is a fast-paced, heavy-damage, aoe-laden fight with a high degree of predictability. It will test the reaction time of everyone in your party, it has two DPS checks in the form of an Add Phase and a Soft Enrage. It will also test the ability of your healers as Shiva hits hard from the start, and even harder by the end.

Overview

  • Shiva has three weapons: A Sword, a Staff, and a Bow. All players need to be aware of these weapons at all times. Focus target is highly recommended. She will float up in the air and twirl around every time she changes weapons, watch for it!
  • Pair up at the beginning of the fight. Pick a direction AND whether you will be 'Inner' or 'Outer'. You will maintain this designation throughout the fight. Tanks will always be paired and will always go North. More on this later.
  • For the majority of the fight, the entire party should stay tightly stacked behind Shiva to minimize the movement they have to do when certain mechanics happen.
  • Tanks will choose either Sword or Staff to tank. Sword Tank should take Shiva from the start of the fight and hold her for Phase 1 and Phase 2 before the Staff tank takes her at the start of Phase 3. Then switch depending on weapon.

Mechanics

  • Sword Form - Shiva will pull out a sword and shield. The tank at the time MUST turn Shiva around as soon as she does this to face the party as she will do a cleave for 18,000 damage that will be spread across the number of targets it hits. The tank should immediately turn her back around after it goes off to avoid hitting the party with Glacier Bash, a front conal AoE which works exactly like Garuda's slipstream, except that it hits about three times as hard (Do not get hit by this.)
  • Staff Form - Shiva will pull out a staff. During Phase 1 she will place Hailstorm on everyone right away, spread out and do not allow any portion of the aoe to overlap. Aoes that are overlapped mean more party wide damage. During Phase 2 Hailstorm will only target certain players. This is where your earlier pairings and designations come into play and you will use them to spread out to avoid overlapping or doing extra party-wide damage.
  • Bow Form - Shiva will pull out a bow, but only during Phase 3. She will always do this after putting away the previous weapon. Everyone must stack immediately behind her, even the current tank, as soon as she pulls out the bow as she does a approximately 270 degree cone aoe. As soon as it goes off the tank must pull her back toward the wall, as close as you can get. DPS and healers will fan out to either side while NO ONE will stand behind her. A blue marker will appear on one player and they must run directly behind Shiva to be hit by a line aoe that will send them flying. If Shiva is pulled back to the wall properly, the player will not hit the opposing wall and become an icecube. If the current tank is targeted, they should Holmgang or Tempered Will to avoid being pushed back. The current tank should pull her back to the middle in preparation of the next weapon switch. Healers should be prepared for the most damage to go out on the tanks during Bow Phase. Tanks can use Awareness during this phase to prevent some of her critical hits, of which she has a lot during bow phase.
  • Permafrost - The cast is fast and easy to miss, but there will be a telling burst of light on the floor of the arena right before it happens. Do not move or you will likely end up in a wall and turned into an icecube.
  • Icicle Impact (Circle AoEs) - Shiva has two types of circle AoEs. There is a set commonly referred to as Titan Bombs which spawn one at a time and explode one at a time. Despite their similarity to Titan Bombs, we usually stack in the middle and just eat one because it's harder to mess that up. The second type will spawn in two sets: + formation then x formation, or vice versa. The first set will always show you where the safespots will be on the second set. The first formation will NOT have a circle in the middle so the party should stay in the middle momentarily as this is also when Shiva will change to either Sword or Staff form. The second formation will ALWAYS have a circle in the middle, and if Staff form is her weapon of choice, this is where you break into your predetermined pairings/positions. If she chooses the sword, wait until the cleave hits the party, and then the whole party should run South, except for the Sword Tank who should run to their safe spot as normal to avoid hitting the party with Glacier Bash. The Icicle Impact will apply a stacking Damage Taken Increased debuff, so try to avoid getting hit by them when you can.
  • Whiteout - Shiva will do damage to everyone in the room, except for those who are stacked up almost right underneath her. This is why we keep the party in a tight stack throughout the fight. She will only use this during Phase 3 Sword Form.
  • Soft Enrage - Throughout the fight, Shiva will gain stacks of a damage buff which is going to make everything she does hurt more and more. Around ten stacks it will likely be too much for the healers to deal with and you will wipe. Because of this you want her to die as quickly as possible, and also avoid the Circle AoE debuff.

^^If you are comfortable with all of the above, you can beat Shiva EX, but let's go over the each Phase very quickly so that you have an idea of what will be happening when.

Phase Overview

Phase 1 - (100%-79%)
The Sword Tank should take her from the start and tank her for this phase and the next, regardless of weapon. She will try out both the Sword and the Staff here, in a random order. The party should remained stacked behind her except for when she changes to Staff and puts Hailstorm on everyone, then they need to spread out. Tank should keep her as close to the middle as possible for when the Circle AoE goes out. The whole party should eat the damage and the debuff as it is not a big deal in this phase.

Phase 2 (Adds) (79% - Diamond Dust Cast) (60 secs)
Four adds will spawn, the party should stack up in the middle if they aren't and let the Staff Tank grab threat on everything and keep it in a nice tight stack. DPS should blow their damage cooldowns and aoe like crazy to get the adds down as quickly as possible. Shiva will only use the sword during this phase, so Shiva Tank must be prepared to turn her toward the group for the cleave, and then back, and to avoid Glacier Bash. She will only use these abilities once each, then she will auto attack you for the rest of the phase. Keep DPSing even after Shiva disappears and begins to fly in for Diamond Dust, so long as the adds go down before the party is frozen in place, you will survive.

Phase 3 (Diamond Dust - 0%)
The Staff Tank/Add Tank should pull as soon as Shiva reappears as she always uses the Staff following Diamond Dust. The party should prepare for the circle AoEs and Hailstorm. After Hailstorm the Staff Tank should pull Shiva back to middle and prepare for either Titan Bomb style Circle AoEs, Permafrost, or both. Bow Form will follow immediately after. From here on out you will repeat the mechanics which you are already familiar with until the fight is done. Tanks should make it a point to be constantly returning her to the middle of the arena when she is not in bow form. Healers will have more and more damage to deal with as the fight goes on, and because of this LB3 should be saved for a melee DPS to use around 10% of her health bar. If everyone in your party can manage their way through the rotation, the fight should go relatively smoothly!
